Transform your moving headache into a moving experience

They wrap and pack everything in your home into boxes – kitchen, fragile items, wardrobes, linen, books, decor, garage, the lot. Every box is labelled with the room and contents so it’s easy to find things at the other end. They don’t move boxes or furniture; that’s the removalists’ job (see below).

A little prep makes the day run much faster:

• Set aside anything you don’t want packed – baby bottles and accessories, pet food, breakfast things, the coffee machine, medications, chargers and whatever you’ll need for the first night in your new place. Put it all in one spot and let the packers know.
• Take money, valuable jewellery and personal documents with you.
• Wash all dirty dishes so they’re ready to be wrapped.
• Clear the kitchen bench or dining table – our packers need a flat surface to wrap on. Throw a cover over the dining table if you’d like it protected.
• If you have plastic or picnic plates and cutlery, keep those out and use them – they don’t need wrapping, so you can take them with you on the day.
• Split move? If some things are going to storage and others to your new place, mark them with post-it notes or coloured dot stickers before we arrive. Different colours for different destinations works best.

Our packers do not come with any boxes or packing materials, however, you can pre-order these from our sister company Hire A Box. You can choose to hire or buy the boxes and there are recommended packages listed on the website. Remember it is better to have slightly more boxes than you think necessary so the packers don’t run out on the day. Don’t forget to order plenty of wrapping paper and tape rolls. Our packers will bring tape dispensers.

This is the questions everybody asks and the answer is it always depends on how many items you have to be packed. Our packers generally pack 4-5 boxes per hour and we have different recomendations on our website based on different sized properties. If you are not sure you can always send us some photos or book in 2 packers for 4 hours which is our minimum and then let the office know you might need some additional hours. This way we can inform the packers they may need to stay on a few additional hours.

Packing is $85 per packer per hour, including GST. Our minimum booking is 2 packers for 4 hours, which is $680. Beyond the minimum, you’re charged for the actual time the packers work. We’ll give you a time estimate with your quote so you have a good idea of the total before you book. Boxes and materials are ordered separately through Hire A Box.

Yes, we also offer unpacking services so we can unpack items at your new place, putting everything away into cupboards and drawers, folding up the used boxes and having everything ready for you to settle in as quickly as possible.

No – Hire A Packer is a packing service, not a removals service. Our packers wrap and pack your belongings and stack the boxes where they’re packed, ready for the removalists. They don’t move boxes, furniture or heavy items.

If you need anything moved – whether it’s the boxes we’ve packed, your furniture, or a heavy item like a piano – you’ll need to book removalists. Our sister company Hire A Mover can handle the move, and we can coordinate the two bookings so the packers finish and the movers arrive without you having to chase either of us. Just mention it when you request your packing quote.

No – packing and moving are two separate jobs with separate insurance. Our packers stack boxes where they’re packed, and the removalists take it from there.

Unfortunately not. Our packers are on their feet all day handling heavy and fragile items, and for workplace health and safety reasons they must wear enclosed footwear at all times. Our insurance doesn’t cover them working in bare feet or socks. They’ll be careful with your floors.

Absolutely. Pack whatever you like beforehand – it reduces the time we need and the cost. Just leave your own boxes sealed and labelled and we’ll leave them alone. On the day, the most useful thing you can do is be available for questions and give the packers room to work.

We won’t pack flammables, aerosols, gas bottles, chemicals, paint, opened food or liquids, live plants, or anything hazardous. You should pack your own cash, jewellery, passports and important documents and if you are concerned, keep those with you.

Eat down the contents beforehand. Our packers don’t pack perishable food, so anything left in the fridge on the day will need to go in an esky you take with you or be thrown out. If the fridge itself is moving, switch it off and defrost it at least 24 hours before the removalists arrive.

Our packers are trained and careful, but accidents can happen. If something is damaged during packing, tell the team on the day so it can be noted and we’ll sort it out with you. Damage that occurs in transit is the removalist’s responsibility, not the packers’ – if you’ve booked Hire A Mover, they’ll handle that directly.

Yes. Cancel more than 24 hours before your booking start time and you’ll receive a full refund or credit. Cancellations within 24 hours of the start time are not refunded or credited. If something comes up, call us as early as you can – we’ll always try to reschedule rather than cancel.

We strongly recommend you don’t do this. It is best to organise the packers at least one day prior to the removalists and the unpackers the day after the removalists. If you book the packing or unpacking on the same day as the removalists you risk everything not being out of the truck in time and having our team stand around.

You do not need to be home however there are always questions so you should be available on the phone if you or someone you know can’t be present at the time our team are on-site.
